Stanley was a partner with Laxton Glass LLP. He was called to the Bar in 1975 and was certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in civil litigation since 1996. He was prominently featured as a leading practitioner in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution, Insurance Law and Personal Injury Litigation in the Eighth Edition of The Best Lawyers in Canada directory.
Stanley's practice was focused in the area of personal injury insurance litigation, with a special emphasis on the handling of trucking, automobile and general tort claims. He was also well regarded as defence counsel in professional negligence matters and was designated as a preferred counsel by the Lawyers' Professional Indemnity Company. Stan had appeared as counsel at all levels of court in Ontario, and also before the Supreme Court of Canada.
Stanley was primary counsel to a number of major insurers in the area of statutory accident benefits, including arbitrations and appeals involving loss transfer and priority disputes. He also represented casualty and no-fault insurers before the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal.
In addition, Stanley acted as a private arbitrator in loss transfer and priority dispute matters. He also acted as a mediator in actions involving tort and statutory accident benefits disputes.
Stanley was a member of the Canadian Defence Lawyers, the Trucking Industry Defense Association, the International Association of Defense Counsel and the Defense Research Institute.
