Matt graduated from Queen's University with an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in 2003 and went on to complete law school at the University of Windsor and the University of Detroit Mercy, having graduated from their combined law degree program in 2006. Matt was admitted into the partnership in 2017.
Matt has practiced exclusively in the area of insurance defence litigation since his call to the bar in 2007. He has a broad range of experience in all areas of insurance defence litigation, including first and third party claims, and disputes between insurers. He also has experience in WSIAT matters. Matt represents insurers in personal injury and property damage claims arising from motor vehicle accidents, slip & falls, and fire loss, and represents insurers in product, social host, and occupiers' liability claims.
Matt also represents insurers in all aspects of disputes arising from claims for statutory accident benefits (including CAT claims). Matt regularly appears before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, and the License Appeals Tribunal. He has also appeared before private arbitrators on loss transfer and priority disputes.
Matt has experience in regulatory proceedings and acts as Duty Counsel for the Law Society of Upper Canada by assisting lawyers and paralegals in proceedings before the Law Society Tribunal. He is a member of The Advocates' Society, the Ontario Bar Association, Canadian Defence Lawyers, the Toronto Lawyer's Association, and the Cambridge Club.
When not in the office, Matt can often be found with his nose in a (hopefully) good book or listening to music, but is most happy spending time with his wife Kathryn and their three boys: Hayden, Edwin, and Charlie.
